The HBCU Family Reunion and Gumbo Cookoff celebrated the rich heritage and culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) while bringing families together for a day of fun, games, food, and camaraderie. The event aims to expose children and their friends to the legacy of HBCUs in a lively and engaging family-friendly environment. This Gumbo Cook-Off is a vibrant event featuring live music, 22 gumbo teams, face painting, a mechanical bull, and food and drink deals throughout the day — special guest judges, including celebrities to add to the excitement of the event. Attendees can purchase tickets that include tastings from all the gumbo teams and have the opportunity to vote for their favorite gumbo. Moreover, this event serves as a fundraiser for two local college students in the Houston area.
